TORREON, Mexico – Santos Laguna capped its 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 series with Marathon of Honduras in style with a 5-0 win on Wednesday night at the Estadio Corona in Torreon, Mexico.
Thanks to its 6-2 win in the first leg in Honduras, Santos reached the quarterfinals with an impressive 11-2 aggregate scoreline.
Marlos Moreno started things off in the 19’ with a header to make it 1-0, and then three minutes later in the 22’ it was 2-0 thanks to a Julio Cesar Furch strike.
Ulises Rivas was next to get into the action, extending the lead to 3-0 in the 32’, before Eduardo Aguirre made it 4-0 with a header in the 81’.
Santos’ prolific two-legged tie was then rounded out by Diego De Buen’s penalty conversion in the 85’ after Moreno was fouled in the area, completing the night’s 5-0 scorline.
