GUASTATOYA, Guatemala– Deportivo Guastatoya has qualified for the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League thanks to a 1-0 victory on aggregate versus Antigua GFC in Guatemala’s Concacaf Champions League playoff.
Following last week’s 1-0 win in the first leg in Antigua in which Guastatoya FW Angel Rodriguez scored for the visitors, the 2018 Clausura champions delivered a solid defensive performance in the second leg at home against the 2017 Apertura winners, earning a 0-0 draw to clinch its first ever SCCL berth.
Of note was the play of Guastatoya GK Jose Calderon. The Panama international came up with the save of the match in the waning minutes of the second half by stopping a hard-struck Fredy Thompson effort.
Guastatoya becomes the eighth different Guatemalan team to play in the SCCL.
