SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS, Dominican Republic – First-round play in the 2018 CONCACAF Caribbean Cub Championship (CCC) continued Friday as Central FC got its first win, while Portmore United and Atlantico FC battled to a draw at the Estadio Cibao FC.

CONCACAF.com summarizes the Tier 1, Group B action:

Racing FC (Haiti) 0, Central FC (Trinidad & Tobago) 3

- Two-time champion Central FC rebounded from a 2-0 loss to Portmore United in Wednesday’s opener with a 3-0 victory over Racing FC.

- The Sharks netted twice in the first-half.  Jason Marcano (11’) struck first from nine-yards out, while an own-goal by Paul Marckendel (40’) doubled the advantage.

- Tyrone Jones (49’), unmarked in the middle of the box, completed the scoreline four minutes after the break (assist: Nathan Lewis).

- Marcano played in the final of the 2015 and 2016 CCC, both wins for Central FC.

- Racing FC has been eliminated from contention.

Atlantico FC (Dominican Republic) 2, Portmore United (Jamaica) 2

- Both host Atlantico FC and Portmore United remained unbeaten after – and atop the Group B table on four points each – after they played to a 2-2 draw.

- Portmore United took a 2-0 lead on goals by Javon East (41’) and Ewan Grandison (72’ pen).  East pounded home a left-footed shot from the upper-left corner of the six-yard box (assist: Grandison), while Grandison converted from the penalty spot.

- A pair of goals in the last 13 minutes by Herlyn Cuica saw Atlantico FC equalize.  The Venezuelan forward (77’) swopped to hit the back of the net after goalkeeper Andre Dyce made the save off an initial shot following a scramble in the goal box.

- An unmarked Cuica (87’) fired in the equalizer from seven yards with three minutes left in normal time.

- Portmore United played most of the second half shorthanded following Ricardo Morris’ ejection (64’).

The Competition

The top two teams from Group B will join Group A winner Club Atletico Pantoja (Dominican Republic) and runner-up Arnett Gardens (Jamaica) in the CCC finals, with the champion gaining a place in the 2019 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, while the runner-up and third place finishers will qualify for the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF League.

The fourth-place side will face the winner of the Tier 2 tournament -- Caribbean Club Shield -- in a playoff to determine the third club that will represent the Caribbean in the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF League.  The Tier 2 champion, however, must comply with the minimum CONCACAF Club Licensing requirements to secure participation.

Cibao FC (Dominican Republic) is current champion, defeating San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad & Tobago), 1-0, in the 2017 final.
